Profile of an Entrepreneur: Matt Dacey
Being at business school is all about multitasking. But that's nothing new for first-year MBA Matt Dacey, who started three businesses while still an undergraduate at Syracuse, and another one shortly after graduating. Though three of the businesses are officially still in existence, Dacey only runs one of them while a student at the Johnson School.

The Political Ticker: Post-Tsunami Tuesday
The Outcome:
It was a wild week in the political world. John Edwards, Fred Thompson, and Rudy Giuliani all dropped out of the race prior to the Feb 5th elections. Twenty-two states held primary caucuses and elections. After the votes were counted, John McCain emerged as a strong front runner for the Republicans and the Democrats remained undecided with Clinton and Obama in a tight race.

On Friday, February 21st, twenty-seven fist- and second-year students braved the weather and endured a 7+ hour drive to New Hampshire, anxious to participate in what has been described as one of the nation's premier MBA events. Like similar events around the country, the Winter Carnival at Tuck draws competitors from many of the nation's top MBA programs.
Have you ever wondered how companies get their names and logos? Have you ever thought to yourself... "How does Irish Spring get the scent of Ireland into every bottle of body wash?" Or, have you wondered what it is like to negotiate an endorsement deal with William Shattner?

During the week of Feb 20-24th, the Johnson School Brand Management Immersion went on their annual trek to companies spanning high-tech, consulting, financial services, pharmaceuticals, and consumer-packaged goods.

Welcome to the very first of the Faculty Uncovered Series! The Cornell Business Journal is excited to present this series of informal interviews with the faculty who you know but don't really know. The idea is to get you to know your faculty better.

This month's interviewee is the highly revered Statistician who has been known to work until the wee hours of the morning, I once found him in his office at 2am when I was slipping a deliverable underneath his door.
If you're from India, you probably are familiar with the book by Rohinton Mistry titled A Fine Balance that is considered a masterpiece novel describing the smells, sights, sounds and life of Bombay. I borrowed the title from Mistry to explain an entirely different phenomenon, the challenge of meeting student needs while balancing an employer's return on investment.
When I was in high school, I bought a necklace at an inexpensive mall store. It was extravagantly beaded, decorated with thousands of turquoise, blue, green, and clear beads, each individually knotted onto dozens of strands of floss. A visual feast.
I wore the necklace one summer day, and my friend Beth stopped to comment.
The roots of General Motors dates back to 1907 when Billy Durant, a high school dropout, became the leading manufacturer of "horseless carriages". Over the next few years, Durant created General Motors Corporation through a series of acquisitions. By 1910 he had placed 25 different companies under the GM umbrella only to continue looking for the next acquisition.

VP: Hey Jeff, How was Spring Break?

JG: Relaxing, man. I liked being away from the ho-hum of the regular semester. I am finally beginning to see the sun a lot more, and it looks like the Spring weather is finally in sight.

VP: Ditto. We are beginning to see e-mails from the Class of 2010, beginning to prepare for the summer that will be here before we know it.
Was it the sea, the visit to the mosque, or the long bus ride preceding? Maybe it was just the wine at dinner that led certain, unnamed individuals (ahem) to miss the next day's visit to Koc University's Graduate School of Business? Even so, a single day liberated is no more sufficient than a small paragraph to review the expansiveness and splendor of Istanbul.
