In the Dean's State of the School Address, he talked about "streams" running across the "fields" of the Johnson School experience. One of those streams is leadership, and I would like to introduce you to a group that plans to make this stream wider and deeper. We are called The Leading Edge and we have an ambitious mission: Establish the Johnson School as the Premier Developer of Leaders for the Business World.
Our plan for enacting this mission is based on four points. 1) Acting as the Focal Point for JGSM Leadership activities to make them more integrated, accessible, and beneficial to students. 2) Creating new opportunities for learning about leadership through events, academics, and experiential activities. 3) Developing relationships with corporations and entrepreneurs to facilitate placement of JGSM graduates in leadership positions and to gain insight on development needs. 4) Instituting an Evergreen Process by which one club-wide goal is set every year to make a measurable and lasting contribution toward achieving our mission.
A good way to understand our plans and activities is to meet the officers. I am the president and will focus primarily on communication and development of a project process. The Operations Management Society TQM project could serve as a model for the Leadership Project. There are also many opportunities to work with the Center for Leadership in Dynamic Organizations.
Hans Deutmeyer (hjd6), Treasurer, has declared that there will be no dues for membership this year since the group formed late in the semester. We are more interested in the investment of time and energy to make things happen.
Amy Mancha (aem23), V.P. of Corporate Relations, will spearhead the effort to increase the recruiting for leadership positions. She is already working with the CSO to target companies that have Executive Development programs and she is fostering an idea for finding startup companies that are in need of business leaders.
