Welcome admitted students! Today marks the beginning of Destination Johnson 2000, this year's introduction to the Johnson School for admitted students. "The weekend is a great opportunity for prospective students to see what a unique place the Johnson School really is and how much Cornell and Ithaca have to offer," remarks Nadine Magac '01.
The Destination Johnson committee and the Johnson Admissions Group (JAG) have spent more than six months planning a full weekend of events for you to get a good feel for what life is like here in business school. The program's aim is to show you not just the academic components of our school, but the extensive career support, social life, and unique community environment as well.
The weekend kicks off Thursday night with Happy Hour at the Statler Hotel at 5pm. This event is co-sponsored by Destination Johnson and Lawrence Robinson, Professor of Operations Management. Come ready to mix and mingle with current students, faculty, and the Admissions department.
On Friday, everyone is invited to the Welcome Address given by Dean Robert Swieringa, with remarks by alumna Laura Sullivan '99 of American Express, and current first-year student Eddie Gilmartin. Then, don't miss the Welcome Reception and Casino Night in the Atrium, an exciting event for prospective students and their hosts. "You'll think you're in Las Vegas" boasts Stephen Sauer '01, "all that's missing is Siegfried and Roy."
Rise and shine early for an activity-packed day on Saturday. It will be hectic, but worth it. The morning starts with a team dynamics activity for prospective students. Significant others and spouses will be treated to a program sponsored by the Johnson School's couples association, Joint Ventures. A luncheon in the Atrium will allow you to meet faculty, after which there will be a variety of sessions to acquaint you with our career services, financial aid, and one-of-a-kind immersion learning programs.
One highlight of the weekend is the Information and Club Fair, taking place Saturday at 4pm. Here you will get a chance to investigate extracurricular activities from the Consulting Club to the Frozen Assets women's hockey team. "This event helps prospective students get an idea of how active a school we really are, and where they might want to get involved," adds David Bloom '01, Vice Chair of the Student Faculty Committee (SFC).
