The Johnson School has announced the formation of a venture capital fund and incubator to be managed by Johnson School MBAs with oversight from Professor David BenDaniel (Don and Margi Berens Chair for Entrepreneurship) and a network of advisors. The initiative, begun as a Park Leadership Project by John Kyles and Alex Ivanov, has grown to include both first year and second year students and faculty. The objectives of the Fund are to enhance the educational and professional opportunities of Cornell Johnson School MBA students through experiential learning while simultaneously enhancing the reputation of the Johnson School and Cornell University in the field of entrepreneurship. The Fund will achieve these objectives through a portfolio of investments in start-up ventures founded by Cornell faculty, alumni and students, as well as through technology transfer of ideas from the greater Ithaca community.

Currently, Big Red Ventures is reviewing applications from over 20 interested first year students for positions as student venture partners. With the concurrent formation of the virtual incubator, led by Jean Matthews and Richard Ryan, Cornell students will assist in the development of businesses through business plan research, business plan formation, strategic oversight, and marketing development. Teams will form around ventures and participate in the commercialization and development of high growth ventures. For more information contact Alex Ivanov at agi2@cornell.edu.
