The Competitive Edge

As we just finished spring break, I thought that it would be interesting to look at the spring break activities at some of the business schools. As you will see in the following article, things are pretty lively at the other schools (if Harvard is any indication). This first article is a cross between an Ann Landers’ column and the Howard Stern Show.
This one doesn’t contain commentary, I wouldn’t know where to begin…

Ask Uncle Dan
"I'm Here for You"

-Hey there HBS! Sorry to have deserted you last week but it was spring break. I spent a glorious week in a swinging
beach resort and I can tell you that the itching I’m suffering now is well worth it. Here’s hoping that I haven’t yet
built up a tolerance to these antibiotics. Anyway, on to your problems...

Dear Uncle Dan,
The night was balmy, the punch was strong, the sand was soft, he was gentle and I was weak. Yes, I fell for a classmate on a distant Caribbean shore over spring break. However, when I got back to HBS and checked his class-card, I discovered that he is an engineer. Now I feel sordid and used. How could he have kept this from me?
-Yours, Anne Easylay

Uncle Dan replies:
Let’s have a little realism here. You were a long way from HBS and by all accounts you needed some love like a monkey needs a spanking. Why would he blow a sure thing? After all, he says you didn’t.

Dear Uncle Dan,
During spring break, I couldn’t help notice how all the beautiful local girls flocked round the English guys, despite the fact that they were all deathly pale and looked daft in shorts. Why is this?
-Yours, I. Roger Nunsalot

Uncle Dan replies:
Why oh why is this simple truth not getting though to you people? Let’s go through this one more time. The English are God’s chosen people, blessed in every imaginable way. It is a well known saying that “knobbly knees and ginger leg hair are next to godliness”. Besides, the Englishman doesn’t worry about how he looks in clothes. With his witty banter and natural charm, he knows that he’ll be out of them in no time at all.
