Formed just two short months ago, the Johnson School Rowing Association (JSRA) sparked interest among many students who had a desire to try something new as well as to make their contribution for Johnson's Drive for Five! With just 3 participants with previous rowing experience, the novice members along with the experienced rowers started training in early April at Cornell University's rowing tanks on campus. After two weeks in the tanks, we finally headed out for our first test: rowing on actual water! A week prior to the race in Wharton, the Johnsonites that would represent the school tried to refine their rowing technique in 25o F weather at 6 AM. Unfortunately, the one week of on water practice was not enough against Wharton, Penn Med and Yale SoM boats that have been rowing on the water for over a month and have been training since last semester. Next up for the Johnson School Rowing Association are the Graduate School Rowing Championships in Boston on May 6th.
Despite the late organization of the club, the JSRA is set to do even better next year under the leadership of Chris Patterson, "01 and Eyal Knoll, '01 as well as Cascadilla Boat Club coach Mike Bevans. This year we want to thank Michelle Mason and Mike West, the two undergrads who took time to cox our boats as well as Mike Bevans who coached us.
