A lot of attention in this column has been focused on the social scene and its relative merits. This is due to the fact that we all work fairly hard and encounter certain levels of stress as part of the MBA experience. I feel it is necessary to balance this out with a certain amount of socializing. Don't forget that a key part of the b-school experience is networking. After a month or so, some 1st years may be wondering "Is anything else out there?" Well, the answer is "maybe…" Here is a rundown of local entertainment outlets from the business-casual point of view.

· The Palms. Much revered, sometimes loved, other times hated, but never ignored; it still ranks highest in terms of b-school allegiance for better or worse. It is also the most likely bar in Collegetown to get into a fight and a few of us can attest to that personally.

· Bibi's. Brash and upwardly mobile, this watering hole has its own built in marketing machine that has infiltrated the Johnson School. It also boasts two of our finest working behind the bar. It is also the most likely place to be consuming sickly sweet shots at a moment's notice.

· Stella's. Good for a slightly quieter drink than the above but I still wouldn't recommend their martinis. Although the music can be better than at either of the aforementioned, Stella's seems to be losing traction among the b-school set. Probably the most discreet place for a date in Collegetown (if you care not to be seen).

· Ruloff's. A good introduction for first-years and definitely more 18-year olds than the others. The downstairs bar is a good place to co-mingle with freshmen and sophomores.

· Dino's. Never been.

· Collegetown Bagels. It tastes better after last call. Don't drink the beer.

· The Chapter House. Though they still haven't fixed their sign in the year I've been driving past, this place still holds some appeal. The music is nearly nonexistent but the free popcorn keeps 'em coming back. A nice safe place for b-schoolers not fond of Collegetown shoving matches.

· Dunbar's. If your shoes stick to the floor-then you know you're in the right place. Never been, though.

· Republica. Can be a nice alternative to the Neil Diamond at the Palms. Do some of these people go to Ithaca High School?

· The Chariot. The pizza comes highly recommended, although I can't verify this personally. Apparently, they serve beer, as well.

As an addendum, I recommend a moment of silence to mourn the passing of Johnny's from the Collegetown landscape. Failing any of the above, there are opportunities further downtown that will have to wait for another column-if my editor will fund my fact-finding trips.
