Louie's Lunch Truck - A Review

Don't get me wrong, I like a good bone as much as anyone else. In fact, I believe that gnawing on the bone is unarguably one of the best parts of consuming a Buffalo Chicken Wing. However, there are times when we crave the spicy tang of a good crisp wing and would rather forego maneuvering around the bone for every morsel. Such times, usually after a long night, are when a visit to Louie's Lunch truck is in order. Located at Thurston and Wait on North Campus, Louie's Lunch offers an assortment of hot and cold subs, sandwiches, burgers and snacks.

It's not surprising that the Buffalo Chicken Wing Sub ($3.75 half, $4.95 whole) is Louie's best seller. A tender, crisply fried chicken breast is dressed with a bleu-cheese hot sauce and sandwiched between a fresh roll. It provides all the satisfaction of original Buffalo Wings without the work. For purists, the Spicy Chicken Sub (same price), a spicy fried chicken breast served without the sauce, offers a satisfying alternative.
The Philly Cheese Steak ($3.75 half, $4.95 whole) includes thinly sliced steak, melted white American cheese, onions, peppers and mushrooms sandwiched between a white roll. Hot sauce can be added at no extra charge.
Louie's makes a multitude of hamburgers (cheese, bacon, pizza, double) and hot dogs (chili, cheese, sauerkraut), all under $3.00. Try the double Bo burger with onions, topped with a fried egg and served on a whole-wheat bun ($2.74), it's a surefire way to halt a hangover in its tracks. All these items will inflict serious damage to your waistline, but if you want to fool yourself into feeling healthy, a veggie burger can be substituted for an additional $0.20.

You can also choose from three salads, including the Country Salad ($3.75), an abundant combination of black olives, tomatoes, mozzarella cheese and ranch dressing. Louie's also offers a host of hot and cold sandwiches from the conservative grilled cheese ($1.75) to the more elaborate Reuben ($3.50) - a combination of corned beef, sauerkraut, and Swiss cheese, oozing with Thousand Island dressing and grilled between slices of rye bread.
