After four days of the Week in Silicon Valley trip in January, a few of us chose to leave our classmates behind for a weekend of skiing at Lake Tahoe. Despite their combined consulting experience, Drew Johnston and E.J. Dealy couldn't help Tony Titus and myself avoid a three-hour pre-trip delay in San Francisco's airport. Fortunately, the storm keeping us down headed to Lake Tahoe and dumped two feet of powder on the slopes. Matt Zeberlein, Garrett Schade, Stephen Milt '02, and Ladislav Lettovsky '01 drove through the storm and almost beat us to Lake Tahoe.

The slopes were in great shape on Friday, but for those of us who had never skied in powder, the day was exhausting. We were excited to learn, however, that Ladislav had trained and coached skiing for the Olympics prior to entering the Johnson School. Tony immediately benefited from Ladislav's experience - while riding the first lift, he dropped a glove into an impossible spot for recovery. Not only did Ladislav happen to have an alternate set of gloves for Tony to borrow, but he also proved to be no mere mortal on skis by retrieving Tony's glove later in the day.

Garrett ("Slim") Schade '02 braved the slopes on his snowboard and also took advantage of Ladislav's expertise. While we were heading across the mountain to another set of slopes, Garrett bogged down in a long, flat stretch-a snowboarder's nightmare. Ladislav put Garrett on the back of his skis (no, this is not a misprint) and "carried" him to the other mountain. Unbelievable.

Other Tahoe antics: Stephen auditioned for the "Where's Waldo" cartoon over the weekend. We would ski for an hour, regroup on the slopes, and ask, "Where's Milt?" Stephen was a much better skier than most of us (except Ladislav)...and occasionally left us in the dust. Drew led the charge one night out of the hot tub into the snow-yes, the snow-and became the largest snow angel in a bathing suit I've even seen. Somehow, he coaxed many of us to follow his lead. Unfortunately, the casinos were also unkind to each of us and left us wondering what part of Professor McClain's statistics class we obviously missed.

Overall, we accomplished our goal with the trip-it was a blast! Many thanks to Tony for coordinating the logistics and to the Tahoe Trippers for some unforgettable memories!
