The new Boatyard Grill located on Cayuga Lake is on the mark with a fun atmosphere and good food. The view, with crew teams and sailboats cruising by, is very relaxing and the food service is exceptional. The reservation system is a bit screwy though. They don’t take reservations, but will give you preference on the waiting list if you call ahead (after 4pm) on the day of. Recommended.
The Boatyard Grill is a full-sized restaurant serving a predominantly seafood menu American grill-style. The seating is broken up a bit, which makes the restaurant feel smaller and more intimate. The grill is fueled by aged hickory that creates some wonderful flavors. The menu is mid-priced with appetizers averaging $7.95 and entrees that run from $9.95 to $23.95. Additionally, there are substantial sandwiches offered for under $10 for those on a student budget.
The wine list is pretty good, with a decent selection at affordable prices. It is most notable, if not innovative, for offering most of the wines on the list by the glass or half glass. This is highly unusual, but it's a welcome freedom to taste a wine before you invest in the whole bottle. Prices average $2.50 for a half glass and $5.00 for a full glass. The Boatyard Grill also has a good selection of beers and specialty drinks, including a great margarita and some other fun blended drinks to cool you down.
Here’s a sampling of some of the dishes…
Appetizers:
Spinach and artichoke fondue, yum! Although this appetizer was a bit on the heavy side, there were some great flavors that made it more than worth it; Served with toasted pita bread for dipping.
Beer-sauteed mussels, double-yum! These mussels were cooked well, with a hint of beer and jalapeno to spice things up a bit.
Entrees:
Sugarcane grilled shrimp. There was no shortage of jumbo shrimp here. The shrimp were skewered with real sugarcane over saffron rice, black beans, and pineapple salsa. Roasted plantains garnished the edges to complete this delectable dish! Highly recommended.
